A polyurethane roller is a core (steel, aluminium or cast iron) coated with a cast or thermoplastic PU elastomer. The coating is formulated in different Shore A / Shore D hardnesses to tailor grip, load capacity and rolling quietness.
By contrast, Vulkollan is not “just another polyurethane”. Vulkollan is a brand of high-performance polyurethane elastomer (originally from Bayer / Covestro), based on Desmodur 15 (NDI). It is not a generic MDI/TDI PU. NDI chemistry gives it greater dynamic load capacity, higher abrasion resistance and lower permanent set.
That is why Vulkollan rollers and wheels are used where standard polyurethane falls short: high loads, fast cycles and frequent starting and braking.
Industrial applications of polyurethane and Vulkollan rollers:
